Think Twice’s Use of AI

 

Purpose and Foundation

This document outlines Think Twice’s approach to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) tools into my consulting practice while maintaining the human-centered values that define my work. This reflects my commitment to use AI in as ethical and responsible a way as possible, in service of meaningful social sector work.

 

Think Twice Core Values
My core values inform every decision I make about when, how, and why to incorporate AI into my professional practice.

• My work centers on the fact that practices around the collection, care, and sharing of data and knowledge are not values-neutral but rather, are part of how we show up with colleagues, comrades, and partners. Therefore, we pay close attention to how organizational practices related to KM and/or Org Learning might reinforce or disrupt existing power dynamics. 

• We recognize that how we capture, care for, synthesize, and share knowledge has real implications for whose knowledge counts, what counts as evidence, how it is used, and who is able to use it.

• We believe that clear practices can be a form of compassion instead of control, providing staff with the needed clarity and access to learn, adapt, and belong.

• We value the insights and wisdom of the staff, partners, and communities and generate solutions that are right-sized and sustainable for the organization; centering the real information and knowledge needs of people doing the work.

• We ask powerful questions of our partners and expect the same in return.

• We do our best to bring creativity, warmth, pragmatism, and clarity to these partnerships.

 

AI Commitments

My AI use is governed by these key principles:

1. Meaningful Human Connection
   I bring an awareness of where and how AI can support human labor, while grounding in and privileging the ways of knowing which humans and other sentient beings bring.

2. Transparency with Clients
   I commit to accountability and openness with my clients about when and how I use AI. I ask during project scoping what the client's position is on using AI and if they are ethically or politically opposed, I will not use it for their project.

3. Bias Mitigation
   Without exception I rely on human engagement and oversight when I use AI, and document my prompts and processes in service of data integrity, replicability, and greater equity within the organizations I partner with.

4. Data Security
   I prioritize the security and confidentiality of the data and knowledge clients share with me and make every effort to protect any data that I might share with AI from risk. If I cannot figure out how to do this, I don't use AI. 

5. Shared Learning
   I adopt a shared learning mindset as I navigate these ethical and technical waters and only use AI where I can maintain quality and oversight. 

 

Non-Negotiable Boundaries

Certain boundaries define where AI use ends and human expertise must take precedence:

• Never using AI to make final, unreviewed decisions that directly impact clients and/or the organizations and communities they partner with.

• Never inputting highly sensitive, unanonymized client data into public AI models.

• Never using AI for legal, financial, or ethical advice without independent professional verification.

• Never presenting AI-generated content as purely human-created without clear and appropriate disclosure.

• Never allowing AI to directly interact with clients as the primary point of contact.

• Never delegating critical strategic planning or evaluation design entirely to AI.

• Never sacrifice the quality or depth of human connection for AI-driven efficiency.

• Never employ AI in a way that systematically undermines or devalues the unique human expertise of my practice and the practice of my partners.

• Never use AI to generate conclusions that are not reviewed, contextualized, verified by myself

 

Commitment to Growth

This draft policy represents my current understanding and will evolve as both AI technology and my expertise develop. I commit to regular review, ongoing education, and adaptation of these guidelines to ensure they continue serving my clients and community effectively.
